Rebuilding Place in the Urban Space

"A community’s physical form, rather than its land uses, is its most intrinsic and enduring characteristic." [Katz, EPA] This blog focuses on place and placemaking and all that makes it work--historic preservation, urban design, transportation, asset-based community development, arts & cultural development, commercial district revitalization, tourism & destination development, and quality of life advocacy--along with doses of civic engagement and good governance watchdogging.

The next step in parks planning: dog park "playground-type" equipment

People treat their pets like family, which accounts for an upscaling of the pet food segment--it's no longer Purina Dog Chow and cans of Friskies and Whiskas cat food ("More food for 4-legged friends / Meadville maker of pet food expands," Pittsburgh Post-Gazette).

I hadn't thought of adding playground equipment for dogs to dog parks, but it makes sense, just as we need to think about the feeding needs of fauna when doing park and river related planning.

A company called Dogipot, which started out making doggie poop bag stands and related equipment, has developed a range of products for dog parks, including the "Dog-shaped Three Hoop Jump."
